Biographical Statement: Shelly is an expert in building and evaluating social technologies designed to enhance community, social networks, communication, identity, social coordination, and knowledge sharing. After receiving her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Washington, she spent seven years as a Researcher in the Social Computing and Community Technologies groups at Microsoft Research, where she performed user research and implemented social software prototypes (including Personal Map, Connections, Wallop, Slam) leading to numerous patents and published papers. In 2006 she joined the startup world as research consultant and social media incubator, and has since participated in helping to design and implement social software for numerous start up organizations, including Trusera (a social network for health), Strands (place based networking), Zillow (real estate site, analysis of social features), and Pathable (event-based social networking), a spin off of Waggle Labs.
