This is a project I started nearly two years ago with a friend. We set out to improve the way that companies and job seekers found each-other. The idea was that instead of posting job ads to job boards and news papers, a social networking application could facilitate and nurture referral networks within organizations.
I developed a full featured application which:- made it very easy for company employees to ask their contacts if they knew of any good candidates for open positions
- made it just as easy for those same contacts to solicit their contacts – thereby empowering companies to discover meaningful referrals from well connected individuals outside their organization
- allowed company management to visualize and analyze referral networks within and outside their organization in order to improve the effectiveness of referral campaigns
- tracked and reported on referral reward pay-outs to employees as well as to people outside a company
We also developed a separate brand called Jobsicle through which we sold creative services that specifically built employee referral campaigns. The idea here was that people do not respond very well to boring text based job descriptions. What they did respond to was interesting creative that said something meaningful about a company – especially when that creative was received from someone they already knew.
The technology from this business is currently in the process of being sold to a high profile recruiting technology company.
